An experimental writing piece about the “waves” and “moments” we all experience in life, and how these feelings can make us see who we are and what our identity means to the world.

I think that at one point in our lives, we all experience a time where this personal wave washes over us like a clearing realisation. It’s a defining moment, either as tiny as the ripples of the sea, or as jolting as the ocean’s black rolling waves. Either way it creates a growing spark within your body, alighting your heart, mind and soul. These waves are like an awakening breath of air inside you. You may have already experienced your moment, or maybe you’re awaiting to feel it. Who knows how or when it happens, or more importantly what it will do for you.
My wave was like that of a tidal force. It ripped open an amazing self-belief and acceptance in myself which had previously ceased to exist. All my past and present pain, drama and failures became washed out, drifting to the sea on distant sails. I felt a sense of belonging and appreciation for myself.
I am the girl whose bones are covered in skin as dark as the depths of the ocean, whose legs aren’t the perfect size but can swim on to any destination ahead. My emotional, physical and psychological character is like the colour variation of coral, completely original and unique. I’ve developed a sense of self-belief, and it’s now that I see how unlimited I can be, how much I can push the boundaries and become something extraordinary. And although I‘m still indecisive about where I’m going or even who I am yet, I guess its okay because I’m happy where I am now and I understand that in many ways, I’m in control.
You just need this one moment and suddenly you don’t just have an oyster but the entire ocean. And it’s yours to swim in. Dive to lengths even you didn’t think you could reach. Extend amongst the shore, take risks – but know that sometimes your journey won’t provide you with a clear vision. However if you have that spark, that passion, that commitment– you’ll keep breaching beyond the surface no matter how deep that water becomes.
You have so many undenying possibilities and opportunities. There are so many destinations for you to reach and souls to connect with, and I think that’s the greatness of this all. There is no more time to just exist. You have to truly live, every single moment. And we cannot do this until we overcome our personal anchors. So, what’s holding you to the bottom of the ocean? Find it, and release yourself. The time is now. Seize your talents and express your voice. Be you, because I promise that the outcomes will make your heart, mind and soul come alive.
